Track metal tools, machinery, IT equipment, containers, fixtures and industrial assets with passive UHF RFID tags designed specifically for conductive surfaces. Syncotek provides compact PCB, durable ceramic, printable PET and high-temperature on-metal tag families for tool tracking, asset inventory and industrial RFID projects.
Two metal assets may need completely different RFID tags. A small wrench, a power tool, a server chassis and a steel production fixture all provide different mounting space, orientation and environmental conditions.
Small tools can require very compact RFID tags. Larger equipment allows a larger antenna structure and can support different read-distance targets.
Flat, curved, narrow and irregular metal surfaces affect where the tag can be installed and how it sits relative to the reader field.
A smart tool cabinet may need a controlled short zone, while warehouse or facility inventory may benefit from a longer range.
Adhesive, screw and rivet installation each place different mechanical demands on the RFID tag.
Water, outdoor exposure, chemicals, vibration and temperature should be considered before approving a tag.
Handheld inventory, fixed portals and RFID tool cabinets use different reader architectures and read zones.
The primary starting family for tool tracking, industrial equipment and projects where tag dimensions must closely match the available mounting space.
A durable PC-shell and ceramic architecture for indoor and outdoor metal asset management.
Suitable when the asset needs both RFID identification and visible printed information.
Specialized hard tags for metal assets exposed to temperatures beyond the normal range of standard asset tags.
Published distance figures below are reference test results rather than guaranteed deployment distances. Always validate the selected SKU on the real metal asset.
| Tag Family | Best Fit | Material | Size Range | IP | Mounting | Reference Read Performance* | Key Reason to Choose |

| TUA-PCB | Tools | FR4 | From Ø5 mm to 95×25 mm across the family | IP65 | Industrial adhesive / glue | Approx. 1–8.5 m fixed-reader references, depending on SKU* | Very broad size selection for metal tools and assets |
| TUA-S | Durable Asset | PC shell + ceramic | 29×12×5, 35×12×5.1, 49×9×0.2 mm | IP67 | 3M tape / optional glue | Up to 8 m fixed-reader reference for selected models* | Compact hard-tag architecture for indoor/outdoor assets |
| TUA-FM | Printable | Printable PET + 3M adhesive | 18×8 mm to 80×40 mm | IP68 | 3M tape | Approx. 0.8–8 m handheld references, depending on size* | Visible printing plus RFID on a metal asset |
| TUA-TM | High Temperature | High-temperature molding + ceramic | 37×14×5.9 or 46×31×7.5 mm | IP68 | Screws, rivets, adhesive or tape | ≥5 m fixed-reader published reference* | Harsh thermal industrial applications |
*Reference values come from product-specific Syncotek test conditions. Reader hardware, RF output, reader antenna, tag orientation, metal geometry and installation environment can change actual performance substantially.
Tool tracking is one of the strongest applications for Syncotek's on-metal tag portfolio. But the smallest available tag is not automatically the best choice.
A successful tool-tracking project balances available mounting space with practical inventory distance and durability.
TUA-PCB includes many different dimensions. The published tests demonstrate why tag dimensions and RF structure matter: very small models are useful when space is limited, while larger models can provide longer reference reading distances.
Extremely compact option where mounting area is the primary limitation.
Published fixed-reader reference: approximately 1 m.*
Narrow form factor suitable for small metal tools and equipment.
Published fixed-reader reference: approximately 3.9 m.*
Mid-size industrial tag when the asset offers more mounting area.
Published fixed-reader reference: approximately 8.4 m.*
Longer narrow PCB architecture for larger industrial assets.
Published fixed-reader reference: approximately 8.5 m.*
*These examples illustrate product-specific Syncotek reference tests, not a universal size-to-distance formula. Test the exact SKU on the actual tool before deployment.
Good RF performance is not enough if the tag cannot remain securely attached throughout the asset lifecycle.

Metal geometry can change RF behavior. A tag tested on a large flat steel plate may behave differently on a narrow wrench, curved pipe or compact power tool.
Install the sample in the intended position and test it using the same handheld, fixed reader or cabinet that will be deployed.
For tool tracking, reliable identification throughout the real workflow is more important than achieving the largest possible laboratory distance.
A mount-on-metal RFID tag is an RFID tag specifically designed to operate when installed directly on conductive surfaces such as steel, aluminum or metal equipment.
Metal can detune and disrupt a standard RFID tag antenna, significantly reducing its read performance. A dedicated on-metal construction is normally required for reliable metal-tool tracking.
The TUA-PCB family includes very compact models, including TU-PCB0505 with an approximately 5 mm diameter form factor. Smaller tags generally require careful validation because available antenna area is limited.
TUA-PCB is a strong starting family because it is specifically positioned for tool-management projects and offers many dimensions. The exact SKU should be selected according to tool size, read distance and reader architecture.
Environmental requirements should be confirmed for each project. TUA-S provides IP67 protection, while TUA-FM and TUA-TM provide IP68-rated product options.
Yes, for suitable product families. TUA-FM uses a printable white PET surface and is designed for applications where visible information is required together with RFID.
Yes. TUA-TM is designed as a high-temperature on-metal tag. Its product specifications include industrial high- and low-temperature test data. The required continuous operating temperature should be confirmed before selection.
Yes. On-metal UHF tags can be used with compatible EPC Gen2 UHF handheld readers. Practical distance depends on the tag model, handheld RF platform, antenna and asset.
Not automatically. The smallest tag may fit better, but a slightly larger tag can provide a better performance margin when additional mounting space is available.
Install candidate tags on representative real tools using the intended mounting method. Test inventory, searching and movement with the actual handheld, fixed reader or smart cabinet before approving the final tag.
